Brooke Burke & Dr. Gundry on Women’s Health, Autoimmune Disease, & Leaky Gut. Why do women struggle with inflammation? Discover the 3 chemicals destroying your microbiome, the truth about protein, and how strength training reverses insulin resistance.
Fitness icon Brooke Burke is candid about her long list of autoimmune challenges (thyroid cancer, Hashimoto’s, IBD, Meniere’s), despite doing "everything right." She and Dr. Gundry dive deep into why women face greater health challenges, linking it to the immune system’s profound shift during and after pregnancy.

The Autoimmune Epidemic: 3 Deadly Disruptors
Autoimmune diseases were once rare, but Dr. Gundry explains that three things introduced in the 1970s destroyed our protective gut ecosystem:
– Broad Spectrum Antibiotics.
– Glyphosate (Roundup), patented as an antibiotic, which is sprayed as a desiccant on crops and kills gut bacteria.
– NSAIDs (like ibuprofen and Naproxen), which cause holes in the gut wall and lead to leaky gut.
Debunking Health Myths
Protein: The common wisdom that we need a high amount of protein is a myth! Dr. Gundry (along with world-renowned longevity experts) advocates for much lower protein consumption. The recommended daily allowance is double what 95% of people need. Focus on gut repair to absorb the protein you do eat.
Insulin Resistance: Strength training is a powerful tool to reverse insulin resistance. When muscles are working hard and numerous, they act as great customers for insulin, preventing elevated insulin levels which are a predictor of diseases like cancer and dementia. Brooke’s "Bite-Sized Burns" philosophy (or "exercise snacking") supports this by encouraging small bursts of movement throughout the day.
Supplements: Dr. Gundry details the critical need for supplements like Co-Enzyme Q10 (especially after age 50 or on statins) , and the correct form of methyl B12 and methyl folate for MTHFR mutations. He cautions that most products bought online don’t contain what they claim, so always check for GMP certification and third-party testing.
Brooke Burke is also a big believer in Intermittent Fasting for gut repair, cellular cleansing, and activating stem cells.
