Here are some of the highlights from the Egypt 2025 ΑΧΩ Adventure Expedition with Robert Edward Grant! Over ten unforgettable days, we explored some of Egypt’s most awe-inspiring sites, experiencing its ancient wonders and vibrant culture.
We began our journey in Cairo, where we spent a couple of days immersing ourselves in the city’s rich history. From there, we visited Saqqara, one of Egypt’s most significant archaeological sites. We explored the Serapeum, an underground labyrinth housing massive sarcophagi within this vast complex. We stood in awe at the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the earliest known stone pyramid and a groundbreaking achievement in ancient engineering.
From Cairo, we took a short flight to Luxor, where we boarded our Nile cruise, ready to continue our journey along the legendary river that has sustained Egypt for millennia. As we set sail, we were surrounded by breathtaking scenery—lush riverbanks, timeless villages, and distant desert landscapes. The cruise provided the perfect balance of relaxation and discovery, offering a unique perspective as we traveled between some of Egypt’s most remarkable ancient sites.
We explored breathtaking temples, including Dendera and Abydos, where intricate carvings and spiritual symbolism revealed deep insights into ancient beliefs. In Esna, we witnessed an impressive restoration project uncovering vibrant details lost to time. At the Unfinished Obelisk, we observed unusual scooping marks in the rock, raising fascinating questions about the techniques used by ancient builders.
One of the most unforgettable moments was the sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Nile and the Valley of the Kings, offering stunning panoramic views of the landscape below. Our evenings were just as memorable, filled with delicious local cuisine, live music, and traditional dance performances that brought the essence of Egypt to life.
Upon returning to Cairo, we had the incredible opportunity to visit the Great Pyramid for a private night visit. The stillness and energy of the ancient structure made for a truly profound moment. However, due to strict new guidelines, we were not permitted to bring cameras inside, making it an experience that had to be fully absorbed in the moment.
To close out our expedition, we gathered for a final dinner and DJ event overlooking the pyramid complex, a perfect way to reflect on the journey, celebrate new friendships, and take in one last breathtaking view of Egypt’s most iconic landmarks.
These are just a few of the incredible places we visited on this expedition. Egypt is a land of endless discovery, and every step of the journey revealed something new and awe-inspiring.
