People with ADHD have a different gut microbiome than those without it.
And the research keeps pointing to two things:
1. Gut dysbiosis → inflammation in the body → inflammation in the brain
2. Short-chain fatty acids (like butyrate) cross the blood-brain barrier and directly regulate neuroinflammation, immune activity in the brain, and even gene expression
Which is why the ADHD conversation can’t stop at the brain. It has to include the gut.
