In a clinical trial involving 120 healthy people, participants were given omeprazole. None had heartburn or acid reflux at the start of the trial, yet afterward, nearly half developed heartburn, indigestion, or acid reflux.
Acid reflux isn’t always a problem of too much stomach acid. In fact, many people with GERD and acid reflux may actually have low stomach acid.
Antacids aren’t meant to be taken long term; however, many people use them for extended periods. Side effects associated with long-term use can include nutritional deficiencies, anxiety, depression, and more.
Overeating, a hiatal hernia, and high-sugar diets can also contribute to heartburn and acid reflux.
Betaine hydrochloride can help acidify the stomach and may help reduce GERD symptoms. Zinc carnosine can also support digestive health if you’re dealing with an ulcer or stomach inflammation.
